 Question: Fat loss
Question:
I'm working hard to lose fat and it's not happening, where am I going wrong?
Answer:
The most common mistakes which will stop fat loss dead in it's tracks are (and these mistakes will stop lean muscle gain as well!)
Skipping meals, especially breakfast
Eating two or three 'square' meals a day
When you restrict calories, by skipping meals or as you do on a traditional diet, your body switches to survival mode and primes to store fat - you soon find yourself at the mercy of panic signals telling your brain to find calories fast, the more of them the better! Your body thinks it's starving - this survival mechanism is very hard to control once it takes over, and when it does you know you are in big trouble!
The reality is skipping meals, or eating only two or three meals a day is NO way to lose fat and maintain a lean body, this will only slow you down and lead to SERIOUS disapointment.
Take control of your progress, eat smarter - eat more often - not less. The old three 'square' meals a day concept went out with the ark - it's time to put this stupid pattern of eating where it belongs, out with yeterdays rubbish. Get with the program and stick to eating 5 or 6 balanced meals per day. This is the key principle for lasting and consistent fat loss. You may have heard me say it many times - spread your calorie intake evenly over the day, at least five or six small meals, rather than two or three large meals. When you follow this format you will keep your metabolism fired up, maximise the absorption of essential nutrients, control insulin surging and causing calories to accumulate as fat and, at the same time, prevent extreme cravings cracking your plan.
For leaness and progress you should be eating at least three whole-food meals, and at least two or three whey protein shakes, each day. Make sure each meal is based on a serving of protein and a serving of low glycemic carbohydrates. As far as fat goes, it's usually naturally in there anyway, and for most people the only fat you might need to add is around 1 to 2 tablespoons of Flax Seed Oil per day).
